Phyllis Jean Burley Smith, 57, of Palmyra, Virginia, was called home on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville, VA.   She was born on August 27, 1961 to Mack and Marie Early-Burley.

She was a founder of Bethel Baptist Ministries in Palmyra and was employed by University of Virginia Health System. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, enjoyed Yoga and was a very active member in her Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepson Joshua Smith, and mother-n-law, Audrey Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Pastor Thomas Smith of Palmyra, VA; her son, Marcus Burley Dixon/daughter-n-law, Angela Dixon of Travis Air Force Base, California; stepdaughter, Christina Smith of Chillicothe, Ohio and seven grand children.

She is also survived by eight siblings; Rosa Burley, Maxine Burley, Larry Burley and Jackie Burley Horton {George} all of Barboursville, Virginia, Patricia Burley-Choloski of Charlottesville, VA, Brenda Burley Smith(Mitch) of Ruckersville, VA, William Burley {Jackie} of Philadelphia, PA, Dorothy Burley Grear {Larry} of Burtonsville, MD;  Along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special heartfelt thanks to MJH ER staff and her coworkers at UVA Health System Resource Support.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 11 am at Shiloh Baptist Church, 71 Shiloh Rd, Stanardsville VA with Dr. Harrison Williams officiating. There will be a repass immediately following the funeral service.

Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in New Fork Baptist Church Cemetery 7 New Fork Church Road Palmyra, VA 22963.

Visitation will be held at Bethel Baptist Ministries, 10376 James Madison Highway, Palmyra, VA on Friday December 14 ^, 2018 from 6-8 PM.
