Melvin Louise Toney, beloved and devoted wife of the late Beverly Allen Toney, Sr., for 70 years, entered into entrnal rest on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Villa Rosa Nursing Home in Mitchellville, Maryland. Born to this union were eight children, four boys and four girls.
Melvin was born on December 6, 1922, the youngest child of the late Henry and Margaret Ford of Buckingham County, Virginia. She was educated in the county public school system.

Melvin was baptized at an early age and gave her life to Christ. She became a member of Baptist Union Baptist Church where she was a faithful servant until her health failed. At Baptist Union, she was a member of the Usher Board for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Willing Workers Committee and in addition she worked in the Day Care. For many years she was a dedicated worker at the Fork Union Military Academy.

Her favorite past time was cooking scrumptious meals (country breakfast and 5-flavor cakes were her specialties) and spending time with family and friends. She was lovingly known as the neighborhood Avon Lady and enjoyed delivering products and meeting people. She was a great Bingo player and loved being with her friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Beverly Sr., son Beverly, Jr.,(Butch), and grandson, Craig Toney. She leaves to mourn, her children, Anna Lee(James), Flora Duncan(James), Robert Toney(Christine), Lawrence Toney(Dorothy), Freddie Toney(Dorothy), Frances Bowman(James), Lavern Toney, her daughter-in-law Edmonia Toney, fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephew and friends.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2016 at D. D. Watson Chapel 4002 James Madison Highway Fork Union, Virginia 23055.

A celebration of a Life and Homegoing in honor of Melvin Louise Toney will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at Baptist Union Baptist Church 125 Baptist Union Rd, Dillwyn, VA 23936 with Rev. Timothy Jackson, officiating and Rev. Mary A. Eldridge, eulogist.
