Carlton W. (Tom) Thompson, 88, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Envoy Nursing Home in Fork Union, after a long illness.
He was born in North Carolina on September 6, 1927, the son of Annie and George Thompson, who preceded him in death, along with his wife Marie, and son Mark Thompson, four brothers: Jesse, Frank, Leon, and Harvey Thompson.
He is survived by three children: John (Vicki) Thompson, of Topeka, Kansas; Douglas (Glenna) Thompson, of St. Petersburg, Florida; Beth Ann Thompson, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two brothers, Alton (Margie) Thompson, of Ocala, Florida; Preston (Pat) Thompson, of Virginia Beach, five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thompson retired from the Fluvanna School District in the 1990s after working as a school bus driver and maintenance worker. He loved to laugh and was an avid gardener and game hunter on his farm in Palmyra. He and his wife Marie were members of the Fludderwheel Square Dancers.
Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at D. D. Watson Chapel, 4002 James Madison Highway, Fork Union with Rev. Walt Whitehurst will officiate. Burial will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2016 in Princess Anne Memorial Cemetery, Virginia Beach. Memorial donations may be sent to the Fork Union Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
