Bernard Reena Payne of Palmyra, VA, was born July 3, 1940. Bernard was born and raised in Palmyra, Virginia. Bernard entered eternal rest on Friday, April 7, 2023.

He attended elementary and middle school and graduated from S. C. Abrams High School. He was baptized at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church. Bernard was a quiet and easy-going likeable person. He was willing to help around the farm and the community when and wherever needed. His past time favorites were sitting around the fire stove listening to the radio, especially listening to church messages and music. Bernard loved sharing the home place with his brother, Elden, until his placement at Oakhurst Health Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Virginia Marian Payne; two sisters, Hortense Smith and Cleo Binford and three brothers, Gilman, Charles and Warner Payne.

Bernard is survived by one caring brother, Elden Payne; two sisters-in-law, Alease Payne and Evelyn Payne; five nieces, Sherrell Smith, Alice Binford, Gail Payne, Diane Payne and Patricia Smith; six nephews, Thomas Smith (Sheryl), Earl Binford, Jr. (Denise), Charles Smith, Kelvin Smith, Pete Payne and Mark Binford and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
